Iran arrests elderly father of jailed U.S. citizen

Authorities in Iran have arrested the father of an American citizen was has been detained in Teheran since October.

Baquer Namazi, the elderly father of Siamak Namazi, was arrested this week, the man’s family said on social media on Feb. 24.

Siamak Namazi, a dual U.S.-Iranian citizen, was detained by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in October while visiting family in Iran.

Iranian officials have yet to announce charges against Siamak Namazi.

Baquer Namazi, 80, was arrested in Teheran on Feb. 22, his wife Effie Namazi said in a Facebook post.

The elder Namazi, also a dual Iranian-American citizen, was taken to Evin Prison, where his son is also being held, she said.
