Pro-Obama national security think tank announces ‘relentless’ attack on Trump policies

by WorldTribune Staff, March 13, 2018

A group of Obama administration officials have formed a think tank that aims to organize a “relentless, and national response” to what it calls the Trump administration’s “dangerous approach to national security.”

National Security Action (NSA) is co-chaired by President Barack Obama’s deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes and Obama White House deputy assistant Jake Sullivan.

Obama administration officials who will serve on the group’s advisory council include former national security adviser Susan Rice and former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power.

In a March 11 op-ed for Fox News, former CIA analyst and WorldTribune.com Editorial Board member Fred Fleitz noted: “This organization uses the acronym NSA, which is ironic. Three of its founding members – Ben Rhodes, Susan Rice and Samantha Power – likely were involved in abusing intelligence from the federal NSA (National Security Agency) to unmask the names of Trump campaign staff from intelligence reports and to leak NSA intercepts to the media to hurt Donald Trump politically. This included a leak to the media of an NSA transcript in February 2017 of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s discussion with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergei Kislyak. No one has been prosecuted for this leak.”

Rhodes said in a statement: “On behalf of the broader Advisory Council, we’ve stood up a nimble, campaign-like structure focused on putting forward an affirmative vision of American leadership. Given the enormous stakes over the next three years, we feel a sense of urgency about the need to substantially impact the public debate on national security and the future of America’s role in the world.”

Last month, Rhodes said in a tweet: “Some thoughts on the mission of @natsecaction: It’s time to shine harsh light on Trump’s leadership failures.”

Writing for American Thinker, Monica Showalter noted that “Rhodes, who’s a smear artist with spectacular ties to the media (his brother David Rhodes runs CBS), says he plans to leak things to the press and keep the drumbeat in the press pounding about Trump no matter what he does.”

“At a minimum, we now know what he’s up to and can expect a new round of smears, media manipulation, Obama ‘narratives,’ and dirty tricks, which are all Rhodes specialties,” Showalter wrote. “That so many officials have joined him, under his umbrella, kind of shows you how pathetic they are, given that they have credentials and he doesn’t. What it shows above all is how hungry for retaking power they really are.”

Sullivan said the group’s role “is to help shape the public debate on foreign policy and national security, holding Trump accountable and lifting up an alternative, affirmative vision. That’s what’s needed, and that’s why we’re here.”

Fleitz noted that “It must appall this group of former Obama national security officials that President Trump is succeeding as he undoes everything they worked on.”
