‘War zone’: More than 700 illegals apprehended at border in matter of hours

Nearly 4,000 migrant apprehensions took place in the Del Rio Sector of the U.S. southern border over the weekend, with 700 of the illegals caught in just a matter of hours, Breitbart Texas cited a source operating within U.S. Customs and Border Protection as saying.

Agents identified most of the migrants crossing on Sunday evening as Honduran nationals. Some Colombian migrants also crossed.

On May 17, Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens tweeted that agents under his command apprehended 2,849 migrants that weekend, Breitbart Texas reported. That number will be eclipsed this past weekend as it appears the total could approach 4,000.

The report cited the source as stating that resources were not available to transport the migrants from the border to the processing station.

“It also appears the NGOs who regularly shelter the migrants are overloaded as migrants are reportedly being dropped off at an Eagle Pass Stripes convenience store,” the Breitbart report said.

Between April 1 and May 15 approximately 513,000 migrants illegally crossed the southwest border with Mexico. The number reflects apprehensions cited in the April Southwest Border Migration Report and unofficial numbers obtained by Breitbart from a law enforcement source within CBP.

Kansas Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, who visited the border last week, described the scene as a “war zone every night.” He said it was an “unsustainable crisis.”

“This is a human tragedy here,” Marshall told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo. “At nighttime, it looks like a war zone. There’s a sea of humanitarian crises here every evening. And every day, it’s lived out as well. And I want to just shout out to the Border Patrol officers. They are doing an incredible job, the Department of Public Safety here in Texas. All of those people are doing their best, but they’re just simply overwhelmed. I’m calling on Joe Biden to come down here and see this for himself. And I don’t mean do a flyby stop at the airport here in McAllen. He needs to come down; spend some time on the river.”

He continued, “He needs to fish people out of this Rio Grande River behind me after they have traveled thousands of miles. He needs to go up the interstate here 60 miles and pick up people that have been traveling for two or three days without water in the desert here as well. He needs to go with those farmers and ranchers who are finding dead bodies on their ranches now. Most every day now, they’re finding dead bodies.”
