It’s a case of plus ça change with President ’s nine-month old campaign to rectify the “work style” of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) through means including cracking down on big-time corruption.
Earlier this week the protagonist of the one of worst scandals in PRC history – former minister of railways Liu Zhijun – was given a suspended death sentence for having allegedly obtained more than 64 million rmb in ill-gotten gains.
Under Chinese law, Liu could become eligible for “medical parole” after spending several years in jail.
Liu’s relatively lenient treatment has caused a firestorm of criticism among China’s 350 million Netizens. …
A bevy of ministerial-level cadres in the past decade have been executed for having taken in bribes of a mere 5 million yuan or so.
