Russia weighs a new and secure Internet as its exclusive domain

The Russian intelligence service, and those acting on its behalf, constitutes one of the biggest threats to the Internet’s integrity and security.

Along with China and Iran, Russia is one of the most aggressive nations in exploiting Internet security vulnerabilities around the globe.

Russian hacking activities have been confirmed against the CIA, the U.S. military, NATO and the Baltic nations of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. Russian military doctrine views cyber attacks as a critical means of disrupting enemy operations.

Recognizing the Internet vulnerabilities in other nations, reports circulating in Moscow claim the Russian government is again considering a proposal first debated last year that there be created a separate Internet exclusively for official and military use.
