The theatrical production known as the House Select Committee on Jan. 6, which is reportedly being produced by a former top executive at ABC News, hit prime time on June 9.
While seeking to turn the nation’s attention away from their destruction of the U.S. economy and their almost certain huge defeat in the November midterms, the partisan committee of seven Democrats and two RINOs continues to push the narrative that President Donald Trump masterminded an “insurrection” on Jan. 6, 2021.
Radio and Fox News host Mark Levin tweeted the the purpose of the Jan. 6 committee is to “imprison Trump, destroy the electoral college, and nationalize the voting system.”
Indeed, as Axios reported on Sunday, one of the most vocal Democrats on the committee, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, is pushing the panel to recommend the U.S. abolish the Electoral College.
Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro, who was charged with contempt of Congress and arrested after ignoring a subpoena to testify before the committee, noted:
“That partisan witch hunt kangaroo court committee which is unduly authorized and not properly constituted … has only one mission, to concoct the fake hoax around Jan. 6 based on criminal charges against Trump to prevent him from running and taking back the White House.”
A Republican congressman who has investigated U.S. Capitol security after the events of Jan. 6 riot said Wednesday that Trump “is not to blame” for any violence that may have occurred that day and warned Democrats’ politicization of the hearings beginning on June 9 has harmed the ability of Congress to improve security.
Illinois Republican Rep. Rodney Davis, the ranking member on the House Administration Committee, said the Jan. 6 committee hearings will only politically distract from assigning blame where it belongs and identifying unresolved security lapses at the Capitol.
“It’s frustrating that the mainstream media will use this opportunity to go after President Trump,” Davis told Just the News. “Look when my friends and I, including Steve Scalise, got shot at by a crazed gunman who was screaming health care while he was firing at us, he was inspired by the rhetoric coming from people like Nancy Pelosi back then, who said Republican policies were killing people. And Bernie Sanders too. And not one time did I or any of my colleagues blame Bernie Sanders or Speaker Pelosi for the violent activity that was perpetrated by one crazed individual. And President Trump is not to blame for what happened on Jan. 6. It’s those who broke the law that are to blame.”
Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington noted: “President Trump took steps to try to protect the Capitol before the riot, such as having his Pentagon offer National Guard troops to Capitol Police on Jan. 2, 2021, and signing an order on Jan. 4 to deploy 20,000 Guardsmen if requested by Congress. Nancy Pelosi’s efforts to distance herself from rejecting the National Guard request or pretend she didn’t have a say on the security are demonstrably false.”
Trump said in a statement: “The Unselect Committee has now learned that I, as President, suggested & offered up to 20,000 National Guard, or troops, be deployed in D.C. because it was felt that the crowd was going to be very large. Crazy Nancy Pelosi turned down the offer, she didn’t like the way it looked. Likewise, the Mayor of D.C. Had they taken up the offer, there would have been no January 6th. The Unselects have ruled Pelosi ‘off limits, no questions.’ The hearing is another political HOAX to counter Inflation etc.”
Trump added: “On the eve of the Unselect Committee’s sham hearings where they’ll falsely accuse all Trump supporters of being ‘domestic terrorists’ a man was arrested with a weapon threatening to kill Justice Kavanaugh outside his home after the Radical Left leaked a Supreme Court ruling and ginned up illegal mobs to protest outside of Kavanaugh and all conservative justices homes to intimidate and influence the court, which the White House encouraged and the DOJ did nothing about.”
MSNBC and CNN (not Fox News) plan to broadcast the proceedings “in an arrangement sought by the partisan probe to elevate the evening’s drama shining light on a three-hour riot that happened more than 18 months ago,” The Federalist’s Tristan Justice noted. “Absent from the panel asking questions, however, will be any Republicans appointed by GOP Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy after Pelosi took the self-proclaimed ‘unprecedented- step of barring Reps. Jim Banks, R-Ind., and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, from the probe. Instead, Pelosi hand-picked the most vocal pair of Never-Trump House members to serve in their place, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., and Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who serves as vice chair and was disowned by her own party.”
House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik told reporters on a press call Tuesday the prohibition on minority-appointed members for the first time in congressional history renders the Select Committee illegitimate, as it was established in violation of House rules.
“This Committee is not about seeking the truth,” Stefanik said.
In his June 9 op-ed, Justice offered up five questions the committee should be, but likely won’t be, asking:
1. Why Did Nancy Pelosi Delay Deploying the National Guard?
2. Why Did the Sergeant at Arms Refuse to Cooperate With the Senate?
3. Why Were The Capitol Police Half-Staffed?
4. Why Were the Few Capitol Police Who Were On Duty So Unprepared?
5. Were FBI Informants Present On Jan. 6? If So, How Many, and What Did They Do?
The Western Journal’s Joe Saunders noted that the committee’s show “is irrelevant. What matters is that the committee has warped far beyond a sham panel to investigate a day in American history that was obviously unfortunate but hardly the Republic-shaking disaster Democrats try to pretend.
“What’s far worse is the fact that Democrats like Raskin are using it as a pretense to try to destroy the framework of the oldest written Constitution in the world, to reconstitute it on totalitarian lines — to destroy the elegant framework the Founders devised and replace it with the ugliness of mob rule.
“Democrats don’t want to lead the country, they want to destroy it and remake it — in their own image.”
