Conservatives are happier than liberals, according to a new study by the Social Psychological and Personality Science journal.
The study found that those of right-leaning ideologies are far more likely than their left-leaning counterparts to grasp the “meaning of life.”
“This is indeed a classic case of science proving common sense,” columnist Cheryl K. Chumley wrote for The Washington Times on July 21.
Happiness, for the purposes of the study, was defined and measured by determining two facets – day-to-day satisfaction and an overall sense of meaning for one’s life.
“Take a look around, and who’s protesting wildly in the streets? Leftists,” Chumley wrote.
“Unhappy, disgruntled, outraged, angry, flag-burning, fire-starting, free-speech-shouting, intolerant leftists. Apparently, according to science, they just can’t seem to help themselves.”
News cycles “have been filled with stories of leftists shutting down conservative speech on college campuses; Black Lives Matter types taking to the streets to protest police; pink-hatted feminazis demanding an end to Donald Trump’s administration; House and Senate Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer plotting charts to resist all-things-Trump; Barack Obama supporters working behind scenes and not-so-behind the scenes to press against Trump and toward progressivism; and of rising socialists – Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – peddling their class warfare politics, pressing for more protests, more uprisings, more rebellion against all-things-conservative.”
“These are not the actions of happy people.”
Democrats “have never accepted the failure of their chosen one, Hillary Clinton, to win the White House,” Chumley wrote. “Since, they’ve watched with growing alarm as Trump has dismantled much of the progressive-socialist gains of the previous administration. They’ve felt their power recede with each passing week.
“Now, they tremble to think that voters have developed a taste for ‘America First’ politics, and that this president may win another four years – another Republican-controlled Congress, another chance to influence the country’s courts. No wonder liberals are so unhappy. No wonder they feel adrift at sea, unable to grasp life’s meaning, incapable to control their chaotic environments.”
One leftist, Whoopi Goldberg, made national headlines for her angry exchange with Jeanine Pirro on “The View” that reportedly wrapped with a backstage f-bomb demand for Pirro to exit, and never return.
On July 21, during her “Opening Statement” segment on Fox News Channel’s “Justice”, Pirro addressed the tense exchange between her and Goldberg.
“[I]n the end, this isn’t about me. And nobody needs to feel sorry for me, I’m a big girl, and I would go back on ‘The View’ again,” Pirro said. “No one intimidates me.”
Pirro went on to say that “The View” controversy was indicative of a larger issue in the country.
“As I said, this isn’t about me,” she continued. “There is a bigger issue of that play here. ‘The View’ is a microcosm of what’s going on in the country. The level of hatred toward the 45th president of the United States is beyond anything we have seen in American history. He was once an icon sought after for movies, television, by politicians on both sides of the aisle, sports figures and yes, even the media. Then he ran for president. Now Donald Trump is the target of vitriol so palpable it’s simply frightening. And reason has become irrelevant. We can’t have conversations anymore. And the ripple its national in scope. Family, friend, acquaintances can’t even talk to each other. They remove each other from Facebook and change dinner and family gathering plans for the holidays depending on their politics. It’s almost impossible to have a rational discussion that doesn’t turn into a food fight. And for some, it’s now even fashionable to threaten the president of the United States.”
