Machetes have increasingly become the weapon of choice in scores of crimes in Britain.

Police in June 2017 arrested a man who had been brandishing a huge machete on a packed London street.

There is an average of 15 machete attacks a day in the UK, or one every 90 minutes.

The Daily Mail reported that police dealt with 928 crimes involving machetes in the last two months of 2017, including 425 in London, 99 in Greater Manchester, 77 in the West Midlands, and 29 each in Merseyside and West Yorkshire.

In January, Office of National Statistics (ONS) figures showed that, in the year to September 2017, police recorded 37,443 offenses involving a knife or sharp instrument in Britain, which has strict gun-control laws.
