Adam Exton, a health official who was part of the team which oversaw Canada’s response to Covid-19 and the rollout of the vaccine, died suddenly on Dec. 9, reports say. He was 35.
No cause of death has been reported, though some posts on social media suggested that Exton had mental health issues and may have committed suicide.
Exton was the Director of Parliamentary Affairs at Health Canada and a long-time Liberal Party organizer.
“He played a role in so many important milestones – including getting our government elected in 2015, and supporting Ministers of Health Jane Philpott and Ginette Petitpas Taylor to get big things done like cannabis legalization and launching a new Canada Food Guide,” Minister of Indigenous Services of Canada Patty Hadju tweeted.
“Despite the ways Adam contributed, he struggled too, like many others may be right now. The pandemic was traumatizing for so many. So many things need to change so that people who are living with poor mental health or problematic substance use can get effective care,” Hadju added.
On June 20 of this year, Canada suspended its policy requiring federal employees to get the Covid vaccine. The vax mandate for federal workers had gone into effect on Oct. 6, 2021.

Is your tweet suggesting/disclosing that Adam Exton may have taken his own life @PattyHajdu? If so, I question your ethics of this disclosure. If it’s an inaccurate suggestion, intended to distract from what many suspect may be the cause of death, I also question you ethics. https://t.co/q3A115iOCW
