U.S. firm employing former Delta Force members wins security contract in Iraq

WASHINGTON — A U.S. security firm has won a contract in Iraq.

TigerSwan has been awarded a contract for personal security detail services in support of the Task Force for Business and Stability Operations in Iraq. The North Carolina company has been contracted to protect personnel of and visitors to the task force, established in 2006 to develop Iraq.

TigerSwan was formed in 2005 by former members of the U.S. military's Delta Force. The company has opened subsidiaries in Jordan and Saudi Arabia, Middle East Newsline reported.

"We believe it is imperative to have our Iraqi partners on point in both the security and development phase to support TFBSO and its members," TigerSwan chief executive officer James Reese said.

The contract was awarded amid a drive by the Iraqi Interior Ministry to restrict U.S. and other Western security companies. In February 2010, Iraqi security forces raided several foreign security contractors that were believed to have stored weapons without a license.

The task force has more than 400 staffers. Under the $12 million contract, TigerSwan would provided security personnel in cooperation with Iraq's Babylon Eagles Security Co.

"We are fortunate to be teamed strategically with Iraqi companies such as Babylon Eagles Security Co., which will provide a large number of personnel to our multi-cultural security teams," Reese said on March 2.

"We also have a strong presence regionally, and are continually learning," Reese said. "With our newly formed TigerSwan JO company in Amman, Jordan, and TigerSwan International in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, we look forward to strengthening those ties through this business opportunity."
