TEL AVIV — Egypt and Israel are examining a proposed solar energy
project.
Officials said the two Middle East neighbors were discussing the
formation of a joint solar project in Egypt's Sinai Desert, Middle East Newsline reported.
They said the project would provide electricity to both countries and help develop the
Egyptian peninsula.

"Egypt has the requisite space and Israel would contribute its
technological knowhow," Israeli Industry Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said.
"In our discussions with President Mubarak, he expressed much interest in
the idea and we will be working together with Egyptian government
representatives to advance the idea."
Egypt has not confirmed the proposal for a joint solar energy project.
Officials said Israel and Jordan have agreed to establish a bio-diesel plant
along their border by 2011.
