Franklin Graham: 'True Islam cannot be practiced in this country'

Evangelical Christian leader Franklin Graham challenged President Obama’s statement in Norway that Islam is a “great religion” and said Islam is “violent” and cannot be practiced in the United States.

Graham said on CNN Dec. 10 that “we have many Muslims that live in this country, but true Islam cannot be practiced in this country. You can't beat your wife. You cannot murder your children if you think they've committed adultery or something like that, which they do practice in these other countries.”

Graham said to study Islam, one should look at the intolerance practiced in Saudi Arabia. “But, listen, Islam, I love the people of Islam,” he said. “And I work in Muslim countries all over the world. But when you see countries that where they live under Sharia law, Islamic law, where that is the law of the land, Campbell [Brown], trust me girl, you don't want to live there.”

Graham said many Muslim would “like to get out of Islam” but are not allowed. “You cannot change from Islam,” he said. “If you're a Muslim and you change your religion, you can be killed. Your family can kill you. They can warn you but if you don't come back, they can take your life. And that is the threat that many of these people live under Islam.”

Graham noted that he has been working overseas for 50 years and in southern Sudan Muslims sought to annihilate Christians in the south and murdered 2 million.

“All of this has taken place and all of it was done under the name of Islam,” he said. “But there are millions of wonderful Muslim people. And I love them. I have friends that are Muslims and I work in those countries. But I don't agree with the teachings of Islam and I find it to be a very violent religion.”

Obama, in his Nobel Peace Price speech, said that religion has been used to murder innocents “by those who have distorted and defiled the great religion of Islam, and who attacked my country from Afghanistan.”

Meg, with all due respect I really don't think you would say what you did if you yourself lived in an Islamic country where women are killed and mistreated. You need to do your homework and maybe go overseas for a time to really live and see it for yourself.

Be careful when you accuse someone else of ignorance, you'd better be sure you're not displaying ignorance in what you're saying! Graham isn't stereotyping all Muslims, and he makes that clear, as you'll see if you actually read what he said. His point is that you don't have to distort Islam to make it violent. It's right in the Q'aran, as practices that are supposed to be happening today. Christianity, as an example on the other hand, has to be twisted and distorted to be made violent - there were specific wars that God said should happen at specific times by specific people, but not an ongoing call to kill "infidels," family members who leave the faith, etc. In the Bible, Jesus called on his followers to love their enemies, turn the other cheek. The Q'aran does not teach the same thing. Now, lots of Christians are just in-name-only. They don't love their enemies. And many Muslims are so just in-name-only. They don't murder family members who leave the faith. But I think Graham's point was what one's religion instructs one to do. What you're supposed to do as a follower of a given religion, if you were a real faithful follower.

Interesting article. I find Islam quite similar to the "Hotel California" lyrics. "Relax" said the night man.We are programmed to receive. You can check out any time but you can never leave".

Franklin is absolutely right. However, our government is kowtowing to Muslims and it will spread in this country just like it has in Britain and France.

You are a sad and ignorant person Franklin. You make a mockery of your religion and your faith in Jesus. I'm glad most people don't generalize about all Christians based on your statements and actions, the way you generalize about Islam and Muslims. May God guide you to the straight path of God's great mercy and love.

Franklin Graham is absolutely right! Here are just a few examples of what is considered sacred in Islam:
Koran:
-- We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. (3:151)
-- I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers. (8:12)

Sayings of Muhammad:
-- Mohammed said, "Whoever changes his Islamic religion, kill him." Vol. 9:57
-- Mohammed said, " No Muslim should be killed for killing a Kafir" (infidel). Vol. 9:50

You are so correct Franklin.
