Officials said Jordan has received 50 BTR-70s from Russia as part of aid to the Palestinian Authority. They said the APCs would be transferred from Jordan to the neighboring West Bank within few weeks.

"We can say the issue is solved, since the hardware we pledged to deliver to the Palestinian Authority has already arrived in Jordan," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Sultanov said.

In a statement on July 8, Sultanov said the Kremlin was working out arrangements with Jordan and Israel for the APC delivery to the West Bank. The deputy minister did not elaborate.

Officials said the arrival of the BTR-70s in Jordan took place in 2010. They said Russia has agreed to an Israeli demand that the APCs would not contain weapons.

The BTR-70 was meant to bolster the PA security forces. Sultanov did not say when the APCs would arrive in the West Bank.
