ABU DHABI — A leading Western school in Kuwait has been threatened
by bomb attacks.
The American International School in Kuwait has received several bomb
threats over the last few weeks. The threats turned out to be hoaxes, but
have sparked an investigation by Kuwaiti authorities.
"This could be a prank by some of the students or not," a security
source said.
On Feb. 10, the Interior Ministry held a seminar on state security in
the school, located in Hawally, Middle East Newsline reported.
At the meeting, ministry spokesman Col.
Mohammed Hashem Al Saber warned the 400 students and their parents of
creating what he termed "false rumors" regarding security.

Security sources said Kuwaiti authorities responded quickly to two
recent bomb threats in the school. They said the police bomb squad as well
as fire and emergency services evacuated students and searched the building
for a bomb. In one case, police found a cartoon of a clock with some wires.
"These events had created a climate of fear among students and teaching
staff, as well as leading to the loss of a school day," Al Saber said.
The American International School has been attended by the children of
Western diplomats as well as military and oil personnel in Kuwait. Kuwait,
home to about 14,000 U.S. soldiers, has been spared a major Al Qaida attack.
