A senior official said Yemen LNG has diverted 35 shipments of LNG from the United States to Asia.

The official said the decision was based on the higher prices offered by Asian markets.

"Today our strategy at Yemen LNG is to exploit the difference of prices between the U.S. and Asia, and to deliver to Asia the cargoes which were originally meant to be delivered in the U.S. to enjoy better prices," Yemen LNG general manager Francois Rafin said.

In a Nov. 7 news conference in Sanaa, Rafin said 30 percent of the company's output in 2011 would be diverted to Asia, particularly China, India, Japan and South Korea. He said Yemen LNG, which began LNG production in October 2009, has already diverted 25 out of 85 cargoes shipped in 2010.
