Thousands of pagers used by Iran-backed Hizbullah terrorists for communication exploded across Lebanon on Tuesday. Reports from inside Lebanon say at least 9 people were killed and more than 2,800 were injured.

Lebanese officials said the explosions were an ‘Israeli cyber attack.’

Security sources confirmed that the devices were the latest models used by Hizbullah, which resorted to using pagers for communication out of fear that Israel could use cellphones to track and monitor the terror organization’s officials and fighters.

Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry called the explosions an “Israeli cyber attack.” Several reports speculated that it was a major operation orchestrated by Israel’s Mossad.

The explosions began at 3:45 p.m. local time and lasted for over an hour, Reuters reported.

Breitbart News noted: “It is not clear how the pagers were hacked, and it has not been confirmed that Israel hacked them, but there was speculation that malware may have caused the devices’ lithium batteries to overheat and to explode.”

One of those killed was Muhammad Mahdi, the son of Ali Ammar, a Hizbullah member of Lebanon’s Parliament, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA).

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said it requested “all citizens who own wireless communication devices to stay away from them until the truth of what is happening is revealed,” according to NNA.

Mojtaba Amani, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, was among those injured, according to the country’s embassy. In an post on X, it described his injuries as “superficial,” and added that Amani was in a good condition.

Late Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced that his security Cabinet had updated its list of war objectives to include the safe return of residents who have been displaced from their homes near the northern border due to months of fighting with Hizbullah.

“Israel will continue to act to implement this objective,” the prime minister’s office said.

Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry said it would submit a complaint about the detonations to the United Nations Security Council.

“This dangerous and deliberate Israeli escalation is accompanied by Israeli threats to expand the scope of the war towards Lebanon on a large scale, and the intransigence of Israeli positions calling for more bloodshed, destruction and devastation,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to reports, pagers also exploded in Syria, where Hizbullah and Iran conduct military operations.
