Saudis replace Israel as top importer of U.S. arms

WASHINGTON — Saudi Arabia has become the leading foreign recipient of U.S. weapons, according to a U.S. report.

The Congressional Research Service report said that Saudi Arabia emerged as the leading importer of U.S. military equipment in 2009. In a report, CRS said Riyad replaced Israel as the leading U.S. defense client and received $1.7 billion in weaponry in 2009, Middle East Newsline reported.

The report, titled "U.S. Arms Sales: Agreements with and Deliveries to Major Clients, 2002-2009," said Saudi Arabia was followed by Egypt and Israel, which both received $1.2 billion in U.S. weapons in 2009. Iraq received $700 million in U.S. defense exports in 2009.

CRS, in a report by Richard Grimmett, said Saudi Arabia has replaced Israel as the leading U.S. defense client.

From 2006 through 2009, Israel received $5.2 billion worth of American military equipment, with Saudi Arabia in a close second, with $5 billion.

During that period, Egypt imported $4.4 billion; Iraq, $1.7 billion; Kuwait, $1.5 billion, and Turkey $300 million.

So, Obama bows, and the U.S. is the major arms supplier to Saudi Arabia, where freedom is not to be seen, democracy is unknown, and funding for madrassas eminates freely to enable them to cultivate and spread their hatred of the non-Muslim world.
