A Canadian firm has reported new crude oil and natural gas reserves in
northwestern Syria. The Calgary-based Kulczyk Oil Ventures said its Block 9
could contain up to 135 million barrels of oil and 101 billion cubic feet of
gas.
Kulczyk, with a 45 percent interest in Block 9, reported results of a
three-dimensional seismic survey.
The company intends to drill up to 3.2
kilometers in the Itheria-1 prospect, expected to be spudded in June.

Neither Kulczyk nor its partners in Block 9, which covers 2.48 million
acres, reported any delays because of the growing opposition to the regime
of President Bashar Assad.
Syria, in cooperation with Iran, has sought to
halt a steady decline in oil production.
