Dead or alive, Jiang Zemin exit seen precipitating major power reshuffle

What does notorious fugitive Lai Changxin's possible repatriation to China have to do with the incapacitation — and possibly impending death — of former President Jiang Zemin? Lai, who was the honcho of a gargantuan smuggling ring based in the port city of Xiamen, Fujian Province, fled to Canada in 1999. Since China and Canada have no extradition treaty, Lai has successfully persuaded Canadian authorities to let him stay in Vancouver largely on the grounds that he would be given a death sentence if sent back to China.
