The Sanaa government said the Coast Guard captured an Iranian vessel
that tried to bring missiles and explosives to insurgents in Yemen. A
government statement said the ship contained Russian-origin SA-2 and SA-3 surface-to-air missiles concealed by a diesel tank.

“The ship, with its cargo, was handed over to eight Yemeni crew in Iran
to deliver it to the shores of Yemen,” the statement said.

The Feb. 2 statement did not cite the suspected end-user of the Iranian
shipment, captured on Jan. 28. But officials said the intended recipient was likely Shi’ite rebels in northern Yemen.

“The results will be published after the contents of the ship are
unloaded and sorted,” the statement said.
