South Korea’s latest pop culture, including the international hit song “Gangnam Style,” has found its way into the tightly-controlled North Korean world, a video footage shows.
In the clips, two North Koreans are sitting in a dark room with a blanket over their head to hide themselves, moving their shoulders up and down in amusement in front of a television set playing South Korean rapper Psy’s “Gangnam Style” music video which became a worldwide sensation in late 2012.
Portraits of the secretive nation’s founding father Kim Il-Sung and his son Kim Jong-Il can be seen hanging on the wall above the television set on which Psy performed the famous horse dance along with female dancers.
“Gangnam,” literally means south of the river, and is in the center of Seoul and a symbol of South Korea’s booming market economy.
