U.S. report ties pro-Erdogan media to anti-Semitic trend in Turkey

WASHINGTON — The United States has linked Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to rising anti-Semitism in Turkey.

A State Department report asserted that Erdogan and his supporters consistently sought to blame Jews for unrest in Turkey.

The 2013 International Religious Freedom Report said the pro-Erdogan media further fanned the flames in anti-Semitic reports and commentaries.

“Many attributed anti-Semitic graffiti and threats to events in the Middle East and anti-Semitic rhetoric by Prime Minister Erdogan and other government officials,” the report said.

Erdogan has been deemed the foreign leader closest to President Barack Obama.
