The U.S. military reported 13,500 troops in Kuwait during 2013. The military has used Kuwait as a hub for operations in the Gulf as well as Afghanistan.

The Pentagon relayed the latest award to Exelis Systems for base operations and security support.

“Work will be performed in Kuwait,” the Pentagon said. “Fiscal 2013 Procurement funds in the amount of $67,478,913 are being obligated on this award.”

In a statement on Aug. 1, the Pentagon said Exelis has already received contracts that amount to $1.27 billion for base operations. The statement did not say when the contract would end.

Exelis, part of ITT, has been supporting the U.S. Army’s 401st Brigade at such locations as Kuwait’s Camp Arifjan, Camp Virginia, Ali Al Salem Air
Base, Kuwait Naval Base and Shuwaikh Port. The company has supplied
logistics that included maintenance, retrogades and transportation.
