A U.S. firm said the latest gas reserve was in the 12th block called
Aphrodite in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, deemed by the Republic of Cyprus an Exclusive Economic Zone.

Noble Energy said the deposit was estimated at
991 billion cubic meters of gas, which exceeded the domestic requirements of Cyprus and Israel.

“One cannot imagine a better field in the eastern Mediterranean,” Noble chief executive officer Charles Davidson said on May 4.

Noble has been prime contractor of energy exploration projects for both Israel and Cyprus.

Turkey has opposed the projects and launched exploration
for gas and crude oil near the coast of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
