U.S. finds Iran still secretly acquiring dual use WMD components

WASHINGTON — The United States has determined that Iran, despite an international agreement, continues to secretly procure components for its missile and nuclear programs.

The administration of President Barack Obama has imposed sanctions on Iranians and companies — with a presence in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates — accused of using fronts to purchase dual-use material for ballistic missile and nuclear systems.

On Aug. 29, the administration identified four individuals and two entities linked to Iran’s weapons of mass destruction effort.

“Treasury’s action against over 25 entities and individuals — who are involved in expanding Iran’s proliferation program, supporting terrorism in the region, and helping Iran evade U.S. and international sanctions — reflects our continuing determination to take action against anyone, anywhere, who violates our sanctions,” Treasury Undersecretary David Cohen said.
