U.S.-led coalition warplanes took out 116 fuel trucks used by Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) in a single strike on Nov. 15, the Pentagon said.
In a Nov. 16 statement, the Pentagon said the fuel trucks were targeted near Syria’s border with Iraq in the ISIL-held town of Albu Kamal in the oil-rich Deir Ezzor province.
A spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition said the trucks had been parked at the time of the strikes and were “getting ready to either be filled or moved to sell whatever they had in them.”
In the wake of the Paris terror attacks on Nov. 13, the Pentagon said coalition warplanes on Nov. 15 carried out the highest number of strikes on targets in Syria in weeks.
“Col. (Steve) Warren previously stated that we were going to start going after ISIL’s financial abilities,” the spokesman said. “This strike was part of that strategy to start degrading their financial ability.”
