NICOSIA — Hizbullah and the Syrian Army have been shown in joint operations near the border with Israel and Lebanon.

Lebanese television broadcast a joint operation by the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah and Syrian Army units in the Golan Heights. The Al Jadid channel showed a Hizbullah-Syrian ambush against Al Qaida’s Nusra Front for the Defense of Levant.

The report on Jan. 25 showed an ambush during the previous day in an area believed to be near the Golan Heights. Later, Syrian reports asserted that at least 30 Nusra fighters were killed and more than 25 others injured in the Hizbullah-Syrian operation.

The Al Jadid report was based on a video that was also broadcast on Hizbullah’s Al Manar. Al Manar did not cite Hizbullah’s involvement or that the ambush took place in the Golan.

Lebanese sources said the television reports marked a change in Hizbullah policy. They said Hizbullah, struck hard by a purported Israel Air Force strike on Jan. 18, was signaling that it would continue to operate in the Syrian portion of the Golan just across from the Israeli frontier.
