Turkey seeks waiver to continue buying oil from Iran

ANKARA — Turkey has sought a waiver from U.S. sanctions on Iran’s
energy sector.

Officials said the government of Prime Minister Recep Erdogan has urged
Washington to issue a waiver that would allow Turkey to continue to purchase
crude oil from Iran. Turkey was not on a list of 11 countries unaffected by
U.S. sanctions.

“Turkey’s absence from the United States waiver list regarding the Iran
issue doesn’t mean it will not be included,” Turkish Energy Minister Taner
Yildiz said. “It is out of the question for us to stop buying oil from Iran
unless the supply is replaced.”
