Turkey and the Kurdistan Regional Government signed a 50-year accord for the export of oil from the autonomous region in northern Iraq.

Officials said the Kurdish crude oil would be transported by pipeline to Turkey.

“We have signed an energy deal with Turkey that comprises of 50 years
and can be extendable if necessary,” KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani
said.

In an address to the Kurdish parliament on June 4, Barzani said the
agreement was not meant to anger Baghdad, which protested KRG oil exports.

The prime minister said KRG exported $9 billion worth of oil, funds used for
the government and infrastructure.
