Security sources said the Algerian Army has killed the deputy commander of Al Qaida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb.

The target was identified as the leading aide to AQIM chief Abdul Malik Droukdel.

“He was killed in an operation in the Medea province,” a source said.

The sources said the Army conducted tests to confirm the identity of the
54-year-old insurgent.

The sources said the body, which measured two meters, contained tattoos that helped the forensic experts.

The insurgent has been a member of Al Qaida for 20 years. He became a
deputy commander after the killing of several senior operatives in the Algerian war.
