Sudan regime cuts South’s oil lifeline

CAIRO — Sudan has halted crude oil exports by the new southern
republic.

South Sudan is completely dependent on oil revenues.

Sudanese Oil Minister Ali Ahmed Othman said the Khartoum regime would
not allow oil from South Sudan to flow through the pipeline to the Red Sea.

Othman said the ban stems from lack of agreement between Khartoum and Juba
over the transit for southern crude.

“We stopped only the share of the government of South Sudan,” Othman
said.

On Nov. 28, Othman said South Sudan owes his government $727 million for
pipeline services from July through October. South Sudan is said to be
producing 375,000 barrels per day since its independence on July 9.
