Bilal was “leading a group that tried to attack one of our units,” according to a statement from the Popular Mobilization paramilitary group, which is dominated by Iran-backed Shia militias.

Bilal was the second of the radical cleric’s sons to die while fighting for ISIL. Mohammad Omar Bakri was killed in Aleppo, Syria earlier this year, AFP reported.

Omar Bakri, known in the UK media as the “Tottenham Ayatollah” while based in London for some two decades, fled Britain to Lebanon after praising the terrorists who carried out the September 11, 2001 attacks against the United States.

The cleric was arrested and sentenced to life in prison in Lebanon on a number of charges but was freed on bail in 2010 pending a retrial. He was arrested again in May 2014 for his involvement in unrest in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli.
