QatarGas delivered the first cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas to China National Oil Corporation’s Hainan LNG terminal.

QatarGas said it shipped LNG to the Hainan terminal, operated by China National Oil Corp. QatarGas said the shipment on Aug. 8 served to inaugurate the new LNG terminal, owned by China National Oil.

“This is the third time QatarGas has provided a commissioning cargo for one of CNOOC’s LNG receiving terminals and represents the sixth LNG receiving terminal overall in China to use LNG supplied by QatarGas for commissioning activities,” QatarGas said.

In a statement on Aug. 18, QatarGas, the world’s largest LNG production firm, said it was meeting China’s growing demand for energy.

In 2008, Qatar agreed to supply China with two million tons of gas per year, with the first delivery arriving a year later.
