Seoul sees new N. Korean sea-skimming cruise missile as potentially ‘destabilizing’

SEOUL — North Korea has obtained a new type of “destabilizing” sea-skimming cruise missile with a range of 130 kilometers which could be difficult to detect and intercepted, a South Korean military source said.

A recently released North Korean documentary film on military exercises that depicts artillery barrages, advancing tanks and attack aircraft also revealed footage of the launch of a missile that had not been previously seen by North Korean watchers.

Since its release on May 31, the South Korean military has closely analyzed the footage to identify the missile and has concluded that it is potentially a “very dangerous and destabilizing” anti-ship cruise missile, the source said.
