Officials said Saudi King Abdullah won a commitment from his Jordanian counterpart to allow a large flow of equipment through the Hashemite kingdom for Syria. They said Saudi authorities were organizing convoys of trucks that would enter Jordan and head north for the Syrian border.

“The campaign sees the priority as sending the first batch to meet the
needs of the Syrian families during Ramadan, and coordinating with the humanitarian sides in Jordan to start the distribution by the beginning of next week,” Saudi Interior Ministry Prince Ahmed said.

On Aug. 1, Ahmed, assigned to oversee the Saudi project, said the aid
effort to Syria would include food and household supplies. The minister said Saudis have donated hundreds of millions of dollars to help victims of the regime of President Bashar Assad.

Officials said Saudi Arabia sought to expand assistance to the Sunni
rebels in Syria. They said Jordan has agreed in principle but also wants
Saudi funds to help settle the 150,000 refugees from Syria.
