in a training mission.

The Saudi Defense Ministry said a Tornado fighter-jet crashed on Feb. 11 in the kingdom’s Eastern Province. A ministry statement said the crew survived.

The Air Force has reported a spate of fighter-jet crashes over the last
year. At least two U.S.-origin F-15s crashed during exercises in 2012.

“The crew escaped the accident unharmed,” a Saudi defense official said.

Officials said the Air Force attributed the crash at the King Abdul Aziz
Air Base in Dhahran to an unspecified technical fault. They said an
investigation was launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.

In the 1980s, Saudi Arabia ordered 110 Tornados from Britain’s BAE
System. BAE has launched an upgrade of nearly half of the aircraft in an
effort to enhance air-to-ground missions.
