Royal Dutch Shell to stop buying Iranian oil

LONDON — A leading Western energy major has halted purchases of
Iranian crude oil.

Royal Dutch Shell has stopped all new purchases of Iranian oil in wake
of Western sanctions on the Teheran regime. Shell said current contracts
were expected to be concluded by May.

Shell is believed to have been delivering up to 200,000 barrels of
Iranian oil to Europe and Japan. The latest delivery of Iranian oil bought
by Shell took place earlier this month and arrived in Singapore.

The United States has imposed sanctions on those that deal with Iran’s
energy sector. The European Union is scheduled to impose a ban on Iranian
oil in July.
