Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) showed how it made an improvised bomb that the terror group said brought down a Russian passenger plane over the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.

In its English language Dabiq online magazine, ISIL displayed a photo of three simple bomb components, including a soft drink can and what appeared to be a detonator and switch.

“After resolving to bring down a plane belonging to a nation in the American-led Western coalition against ISIL, the target was changed to a Russian plane,” the magazine said.

“A bomb was smuggled onto the airplane,” the terrorists said, adding they had “discovered a way to compromise the security at Sharkm el-Sheikh airport” to bring down the Russian airliner on Oct. 31.

Russia confirmed on Nov. 17 that the plane was brought down by a bomb.

The bomb was placed in the aircraft’s main cabin not in the cargo compartment as reported earlier, the daily Kommersant reported, citing an unnamed source.

The newspaper, citing a source close to the investigation of the crash, said the epicenter of the explosion appeared to have been at the rear of the cabin near the tail section.

“According to a preliminary version, the bomb could have been laid under the passenger seat by the window” causing “the destruction of the frame and depressurization of the cabin,” the newspaper said.

The magazine also published a photo of what the terror group said were passports belonging to dead Russians “obtained by the mujahideen.”

“The divided Crusaders of the East and West thought themselves safe in their jets as they cowardly bombarded the Muslims of the Caliphate,” the magazine said in reference to Russia and the West. “And so revenge was exacted upon those who felt safe in the cockpits.”

In its latest issue of Dabiq, ISIL also announced it had executed a Chinese and a Norwegian hostage. ISIL identified the hostages as Fan Jinghui, 50, of China and Ole-Johan Grimsgaard-Oftsad, 48, of Norway.

A caption on a photo of what ISIL said was the hostages’ bodies said they were “executed after being abandoned by the kafir (disbeliever) nations and organizations.”
