Report: Only one in 4 nations are enforcing ban on luxury exports to North Korea

A number of countries supporting UN sanctions against North Korea are sparing the communist regime’s ruling class, according to the U.S. broadcaster Voice of America.

Of the 96 countries that submitted implementation reports on what actions they have taken as part of sanctions on the North, only 24 included the shipment of luxury goods in their embargo lists, the report said.

The 24 nations that banned exports of luxury goods are mostly in Europe — 16 nations, according to the report. It did not identify the nations. Other nations include United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and the Maldives, it said.

No country in the Middle East and Africa has pledged to ban sales on luxury products in their implementation reports, VOA said.
