Defense Intelligence Agency warnings in 2012 of the emerging Islamic State of Iraq and Levant’s (ISIL’s) threat to Syria were ignored by U.S. President Barack Obama, according to declassified documents.

The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) documents, dated Aug. 12, 2012 were obtained by Judicial Watch, which said the Obama administration swept aside the threat to national security as the 2012 presidential campaign was nearing peak intensity.

Some Obama officials placed the blame on U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, former DIA chief under Obama, said on Fox News’s “The Kelly File” on Nov. 23 that “intelligence doesn’t stop at Central Command. There are 16 intelligence agencies, five large ones and two that provide what we call all-source intelligence assessments. Those are the most important ones that go to the White House.”

Flynn said the focus of investigations should not be on CENTCOM but rather “at the top.”

“Where intelligence starts and stops is the White House. The president sets the priorities and he’s the number one customer. So if he’s not getting the intelligence he needs and if he’s not paying attention to what else is going on, then something else is wrong there.”
