Forty-five Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) jihadists died of food poisoning on July 7 after eating a Ramadan fast-breaking meal in Mosul, according to reports from Iraqi media and the Kurdish Democratic Party.

A Kurdish party spokesman said 145 ISIL fighters participated in the meal (called an iftar) and 45 of them died a short time later.
The report out of Mosul came as U.S. Sen. John McCain reiterated that President Barack Obama was “losing” the fight against ISIL. It was also revealed on July 7 that Obama’s highly-touted program to train “moderate” rebels to battle ISIL has recruited a paltry 60 fighters.
The Mosul meal gone awry was not the first time ISIL suffered casualties after eating bad food. In November, dozens of ISIL terrorists died after Free Syrian Army militants infiltrated their base in Fath El-Sahel, Syria, posed as chefs, and poisoned their lunches.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on July 7 that Syrian Kurdish fighters aided by U.S. air strikes have seized more than 10 villages that were captured by ISIL north of the terror group’s de facto capital of Raqqa.
U.S. officials said they are increasing the frequency of air strikes in an effort to assist Kurdish advances and reduce ISIL’s ability to operate out of Raqqa.
