Qatar said it sent the second shipment of liquefied natural gas to Egypt as part of a plan to provide $5 billion in assistance.

Officials said the LNG tanker left Qatar for Egypt on Aug. 9.

“Concerned parties are finalizing measures to provide the remaining shipments promised as a gift to the brotherly Egyptian people,” a Qatari Foreign Ministry official said.

The official was quoted by the Qatar News Agency as saying that five LNG shipments would arrive in Egypt to help ease the fuel crisis.

After condemning the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi, Doha has sought to disassociate from the Muslim Brotherhood.
