L-M said it was awarded a $90.6 million contract to supply the Qatar Emiri Air Force with night-vision sensors.

Under the award from the U.S. Army, Qatar would receive the Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor, designed for the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.

“The Qatar Emiri Air Force will be one of the first international customers to receive M-TADS/PNVS systems equipped with the new Modernized Laser Range Finder Designator,” L-M’s director of the Apache program, Mike Taylor, said.

Executives said the night-vision sensor would mark a key subsystem in the Apache sale to Doha. They said L-M won the U.S. Army Lot 9 contract in May 2014, which includes a range-finder deemed more than twice as reliable as the previous model.

“The option includes production of M-TADS/PNVS targeting and pilotage systems and spares for the Qatar Emiri Air Force’s new fleet of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters,” L-M said on Oct. 13. “It extends production in Orlando and Ocala, Florida, through 2017.”
