Officials said Qatar relayed a pledge to send five shipments of natural gas to Egypt during the summer of 2013.

The officials said the Doha agreed to an Egyptian request to ease the current fuel crisis, which again sparked unrest.

“Qatar will supply five cargoes of liquefied natural gas as a gift to the Egyptian people during the summer months, with the first of these shipments beginning at the end of July [and continuing] until mid-September,” an Egyptian government statement, quoting Qatari Energy Minister Mohammed Al Sada, said on June 10.

The statement by the Egyptian Petroleum Ministry did not report the size
of the shipments. In April 2013, Qatar, which also agreed to $5 billion
worth of aid, pledged to continue gas supplies to Egypt.
