Putin’s gambit undermined Beijing’s ‘backdoor’ tech ties to Ukraine

China’s most valuable and consequential strategic partner in regional and international geopolitics is undoubtedly Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

The two countries share common anti-west policies and act in tandem on issues ranging from human rights to support for rogue regimes such as Syria, Gadhafi’s Libya and the mullahs Iran.

But that alliance is facing a serious challenge and it seems Beijing and Moscow are getting on each other’s nerves over the issue of Ukraine.

Putin’s bullying action in Ukraine is similar to his action in countries like Syria, and China has always played along with Moscow, registering no displeasure when Russian warships and troops occupied the Syrian port of Tartus.

But Ukraine is different.
