Iran on Oct. 11 test-fired its first intermediate-range missile, designed for precision guidance, officials said.
The launch was carried out after some Iranian officials had expressed concern that the nuclear accord with world powers could place limits on its missile program.
The Emad “is Iran’s first long-range missile that can be guided and controlled until hitting the target,” Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said.
A U.S. official, however, indicated that the July nuclear framework did not place restrictions on Iran’s ballistic missile program, saying that deal’s purpose was blocking Teheran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Iran’s defense ministry posted photos of the launch of the Emad missile on its website but no details were given about its maximum range or other capabilities.
