Having purged all foes, Xi now plans ‘rule of law’ with Chinese characteristics

Having established his status as supremo through purging political foes under the anti-corruption banner, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping has sought to burnish his authoritarian rule by promoting Chinese-style rule by law.

A leitmotif of the Fourth Plenary Session of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee, which is set for early October, is legal and judicial reforms.

According to the official media, Xi, who is also Chairman of the Central Leading Group on Comprehensively Deepening Reforms, will spell out at the plenum that party and government policies must be enacted within the confines of the Chinese Constitution and Chinese laws.

Party mouthpieces have quoted Xi as urging cadres of all levels to “pay utmost attention to thinking along the lines of rule by law… and that all reforms must be implemented in accordance with the law.”
