Special to WorldTribune.com

ABU DHABI — Oman intends to double the price of natural gas.

Omani Finance Minister Darwish Al Balushi.

Officials said the Gulf Cooperation Council sultanate would double gas
prices for industrial clients by 2015.

The officials said the price would undergo a 33 percent increase in 2013 as part of a policy to conserve fuel.

“Fuel subsidies would begin to be lifted over the next few months,” an
official said.

Omani Finance Minister Darwish Al Balushi said the price per million
British thermal units would increase from the current $1.5 to $3 in
2015.

Al Balushi said the price would continue to rise in subsequent years
even as Muscat seeks to increase energy production.
