As Iran and P5+1 powers agreed to extend nuclear negotiations by one week, indications are that a final deal is being completed, officials said.

Meanwhile, Iran’s state-controlled media reported that U.S. President Barack Obama sent a “secret message” to Teheran’s leaders regarding the talks. Iran’s Fars news agency on June 29 indicated the message to Iranian leaders was sent via Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

U.S. President Barack Obama is said to have sent several secret messages to Iranian leaders.

“An official of one of the neighboring countries has recently brought a message from the U.S. president to our country’s officials,” Iran Parliament Member Mehrdad Bazrpash told Fars.

Bazrpash claimed the U.S. has been hypocritical during the ongoing negotiations as public statements made by U.S. officials were threatening while private messages were respectful.

Obama has, in the past, reportedly sent other messages to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei regarding nuclear talks and the threat of Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL).

Iran is said to have responded with letters of its own. Neither Obama’s correspondence nor any Iranian response have been acknowledged by U.S. officials.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Vienna on June 30 for what was originally the deadline for a nuclear deal. On June 29, Zarif was in Teheran, allegedly to receive a mandate from Khamenei to close the deal.

“I didn’t go to get a mandate,” Zarif said. “I already had a mandate to negotiate. And I’m here to get a final deal, and I think we can.”

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said it was “too early” to tell if a final agreement is possible.A U.S. official on June 30 said “you are going to have a text, it will be evident to everyone what has been agreed.”

Under Khamenei’s conditions, inspectors will not be allowed access to Iranian military sites and sanctions relief would begin immediately upon the signing of a deal.

U.S. negotiators say there will be no “signing,” but that a final a deal will include an adoption phase, an implementation phase, and a phase when all provisions of the deal go live.
