North Korean millennials are seen by Kim as threat

SEOUL — North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il increasingly sees the younger generation as a threat, sources and defectors here said.

The Kim dynasty’s power is based on the state-sponsored personality cult and insulation from outside information.

“The younger generation born after the great famine in the md-1990s has less devotion to the Kim’s dynasty, largely dismissing state-led ideological indoctrination programs,” a source said.

North Korean millennials are called the “black market generation” in the North because they are mostly involved in black markets that have sprung up across the country since the mid-1990s when mass famine killed an estimated 2 million people, according to the source.
